What matters most for body composition?

What matters most for body composition when it comes to our diet? Is it supplements or how often you eat? Just look at this cake to find out! :-D It turns out that for body composition (fat loss, muscle "tone", etc) that how much you eat matters. Followed by what you eat. Macronutrition is total calories and what ratio of carbs, fats, and proteins you eat on a daily basis. Micronutrition is the vitamins, minerals, fiber, and other nutrients obtained through food selection. These two are the center of the cake and are the core components of a healthy diet for ideal body composition. Nutrient timing and distribution (when and how often you eat) is like the cake frosting. It matters a little, but without having the center there's nothing to frost. Finally, supplements are the little decorative sprinkles on top of the cake. Sure, they look nice. But do they really change the taste of the cake? Not really. In short, if your goal is fat loss and body composition focus first on how much you eat. Second, look at what you are eating. Only once those are firmly in place consistently should we have the slightest concern about nutrient timing and even less concern with supplements. Then you can have your cake and eat it too! :-)
